These words echoed through the corridors of friends' and relatives' homes, a subtle reminder of a choice that held the power to shape the course of our taste buds and health.

My memories draw me back to my grandfather, a man whose love for sweets was as profound as his battle with diabetes. Under the veil of night, he would tiptoe into the kitchen, indulging in sugary treats like a gentle thief, mindful of the condition that restricted his desires. His yearning for sweetness was both palpable and bittersweet, a poignant illustration of the human heart's cravings and constraints.
